The One Where I Broke Down Crying

It was not a great weekend. :-(

I had been feeling strong morning sickness all weekend long.  I didn't make it to hang out with friends on Saturday.  I didn't make it to church on Sunday.  I didn't make it to work on Monday.  I didn't sleep and was sick all Sunday night.  Poor Jonathan and Selah trying to take care of me. What is it you say?  It is a luxury of pregnancy?  It means the baby is healthy?  It goes away in the second trimester?  It should get better?

Let me just say, I love this child.  It happens to be very stubborn like me.  It keeps mommy on her toes with sickness.  I am now in my 19th week and have been sick since week 7.  I have increased the dosage of my medicine lately to be able to function.  The heartburn has also kicked in full force!  However, it will all be worth it in the end.  Also, if Appleseed cooperates, Jonathan and I will find out what we are having on Friday! We cannot wait!

Side note:

A good number of people have encouraged me not to find out what we are having.  I find moms and dads that take this approach have much more patience than me and are not type A personality.  I need to find out.  However, if it is meant to be a surprise, then Appleseed will not cooperate on Friday.  If this happens, I'm leaning towards a stubborn girl, just like her mom. ;-)

Side note 2:

The changing table came today! Yay! Appleseed's room is coming along slowly but surely!  As long as everything is in place by October, I will be fine.  I think.  I sitll refuse to read the labor and delivery chapters of all of my books. :-/

Appleseed developments this week:

Appleseed's brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision and touch.  Also, some research says Applseed can hear our voice now.  Aww!  He/she weights about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches.  This is about the size of a mango or an heirloom tomato (depending on the app).  He/she continues to make urine and the hair on his or her scalp is sprouting! Yay! I hope Appleseed has lots of hair, but if he/she has none (like me), I will still love them tons! :-)

Appleseed's heartbeat can be heard with a fetascope this week.  (I have no idea what this is. Someone please fill me in.)  He/she has less transparent skin now.  He/she can grasp things as well!

There is also a protective coating called the vernix caseosa on his/her skin to prevent the skin from picking in the amniotic fluid.  (Gross!) See why I don't read about labor and delivery!  It is this kind of thing that scares me!

Side note:

I am reading a book Jonathan's cousin (Amy) sent me written by Jenny McCarthy about her pregnancy.  She talks about getting in a hot tub and then worrying her baby was hard-boiled like an egg! Haha! I have not thought this but it gave me comfort that other moms jump to extremes about their baby's growth, development, and well-being as well!

Enough about rambling from me about being sick and it taking FOREVER for friday to get here!

Next post will reveal Baby Turner's gender! Tune in this weekend! :-)

P.S. I want to add that my weeks change every Sunday so it makes keeping up with the weeks easier.  I like this.

  1. Wow! You are having a tough go of it. It WILL be worth it.

Definitely find out the gender! It is so awesome to be able to call him/her by name before birth. You get to feel like you almost know them (and then they come out and you dont know what to do with them!).

  2. I am so ready to find out the gender! If Baby T cooperates, I will know in less than 24 hours! CRAZY!! So excited!

I am positive that it will be worth it! I just wish it would get a little better so I could enjoy days and not be sick! :-( Or have a headache like today...however, I hear those are common...
